"Potential" ((Inuyoko Mass #40))
Hello, everyone. My name is Inuyoko T’Alveni. I am a Priestess of this Shrine, and a member of its clergy since deoch 53. Many thanks to everyone who attended the Mass of the Octave this past double-moon in lieu of my typical Mass time. It was lovely to see all of the faiths come together, and I feel like it went well. Today, I’d like to expand on the themes that we discussed at that event.
Deoch’s place as the first god of the cycle, despite being the last god to enter the Octave, is an important one. He holds this place not simply because of His relationship with Danaan, but because of His role as the god who solidified the covenant that has mostly kept Chadul sealed away. The Atavism Age, and the beginning of Deoch dating marks this event, as well as our ascension from the mundane to the gifted. And with it began a new dawn characterized primarily by hope, and potential.
For aeons, the gods and beings of Kadath and other planes watched as we mortals clawed and crawled our way through the darkness, often over the backs of one another. Some participated in our misguided ventures. Some used their power to manipulate our worst tendencies as we destroyed ourselves time and again. Shackled our own society to mysterious forces in the name of power and personal gain. Certainly, that potential is still within us. However, in giving to us a small piece of the essence of the gods themselves, Deoch has given us the opportunity to be a part of what holds the fabric of this world together. And the other gods, despite all of their differences, mostly agreed that this bid to serve the light was worth the risk.
With His gift, Deoch did not choose to say, “I have given you strength, now worship me.” Instead, He said “I have given you potential, now Aisling, do.” Every god’s domain plays its part in our world, so it is not an insult to Deoch for some of us to turn to others. It is indeed the opposite. Every one of you, no matter your faith, honors Him by following your unique path. That heterogeneity makes our world more dynamic, more interesting. So much more possibility to be inspired. That is certainly a blessing.
