"The Promise" ((Inuyoko Mass #49))
Hello, everyone. My name is Inuyoko T’Alveni. I am a Priestess of this Shrine, and a member of its clergy since deoch 53. Last double-moon, I talked about how we can live in the spirit of Deoch, even during our more difficult times. Today, I’d like to reiterate part of my view of Deoch as a god of beginnings.
When I say a god of beginnings, I want to distinguish His role from that of progenitorship. It is true that He is the origin of the Spark, but that gift does not divorce us from our previous Humanity. Perhaps it is more accurate to call it new beginnings, marked by a shift in responsibility and relationship to the world around us, and to each other. The birth of a new era defined by His name is not only significant because of the spark. With His final step into godhood, the Octave itself is reborn, subtly transforming the cycles by which all is governed. He represents the hope and potential of another chance with each turning.
Deoch is also both a literal and metaphorical representation of the transition from the ages defined primarily by Chadul’s influences to one that at least dares to hope to leave it behind. Through Danaan’s influence, Deoch was given His own new beginning, and through the influence of both, we are given the same. Certainly, the clashes of power amongst societies, nations and regions still exist. Loures still stands, and the worst examples of its legacy are not that far behind us. Far from erased, some still endure. But our lesson is that we do not have to continue to be defined by the worst parts of our history. We are in a unique position as Aislings to move humanity in a better direction. How can we do that? How will we? That answer is not prescribed to us by Deoch, it is offered up for us to decide.
I like to hold onto this philosophy of rebirth and hope on every scale, from the scope of civilizations down to each of us individually. We are constantly creating small little worlds, through our words and actions, our art and our engagement with the past and present. Each of them is an opportunity. Every new event and every moment is a threshold beyond which lies a promise. I hope that you all will continue to move with courage through those doors as they open for you, and hold them open for others to do the same.
